Venetian Waterway Trail Venice, FL

Bicycling, walking, fishing and dog friendly.
The Venetian Waterway Park is a trail running along both sides of the Intracoastal Waterway. This trail is 5 miles long on each side and connects to the Legacy Trail at the Venice Train Depot. Parking is available on the Western side at Casperson Beach Park and the Venice Train Depot. These locations are on Venice Island.

The Legacy Trail is currently a 10 mile trail system that has rest areas, bathrooms and beautiful scenery along the way. The closest parking area from the Motel is at the Nokomis Community Center about a mile-and-a-half away. The Community Center also has a playground and restrooms available for public use.

Print off a map of both trails before you start your journey.
If you want to rent a bicycle, visit Real Bikes, a two mile drive from the Motel. They offer wide variety of quality bicycles.


Oscar Scherer Park Osprey, FL

Playgrounds, picnics, hiking trails and BBQs.
Casey Key has two locations with playgrounds, grills and picnic tables. The first is within walking distance on Casey Key road heading South. It’s on the left just after you pass the Albee Rd. intersection. The second is a one mile drive South on Casey Key which dead-ends into the North Jetty Park.

If you’re looking for a quieter park, however, check out Venice Myakka River Park on Laurel Rd. about three-and-a-half miles away. Enjoy hiking along the Myakka River or launch your canoe/kayak on the boat ramp. Playground and pavilions also onsite.

Another one you don’t want to miss is Oscar Scherer State Park about three miles from the Motel heading North on Route 41/Tamiami Trail. It has 15 miles of beautiful shady hiking trails, a swimming pond, playground and pavilions. Go into the nature center to learn about Scrub Jays and other amazing animals.


Most parks are free to enter, however, some charge a nominal fee per carload in order to keep the parks in great shape.


Brohard Beach Dog Beach

Woodmere Paw Park and Brohard Beach Paw Park.
Sarasota County is extremely pet friendly. The closest park is the Brohard Beach Paw Park on Venice Island about four miles away. This paw park has an enclosed play area, picnic tables, beach access for you and your pooch and a water station.

Woodmere Paw Park is about five miles away heading South on Route 41/Tamiami Trail. This park is very shady and provides an enclosed area for you and your pooch to socialize. Water stations also onsite. In addition, a playground and public restrooms are at Woodmere Park.
